Role Of The Distributor

Identifying with the Audience.
The role of the distributor is to make sure that their type of movie is watch by a large range of audiences. They do this by developing interesting and exciting titles that catch your eye and get an interest in the film. As the media industry is progressing everyday people are now more aware of the internet and the many ways that they can use it. Because it is now know the 'digital age' people are now known to look up on the film on the internet before going to see it in the cinema. This also helps them get information on the film like who stars in it who directed it etc. This also lets them have the opportunity to have a look at the teaser trailer. It is said that seeing a movie is always better at the cinema it has these key factors 1) its has the 'greatest impact' for the film as the screen is high quality, the sound is loud and clear and (depending where you go) the seats are comfortable. 2) you can sit there for the duration of the movie being 'uninterrupted'. 3) it gets you involved with the movie making it a 'larger-than-life adventure'.

The Distribution Plan.
warner-bros-logo-thumb.jpegBefore the film is released into the public view the distributors have to plan out when and how it should be released to make sure that they get a good reaction from the public. To get this information to help them know when the right time to release a film they have to have a range of knowledge in different areas of the distribution sector. Like 'Market Knowledge' they need to research into what in the market at the moment and whats selling and whats not selling. They research this 'Statistically' so that they can work out what the best time for the releases of different movies depending on the mood of the media. Also they need to have a 'Professional Judgment', this is so if they do put it out in the media they know it will do good or not. But sometimes the audiences can be unpredictable as no one officially knows what people are going to do. They sort of make peoples minds up when they find out ways to do more in depth research. Like pre-releases of the film to see what people think about it from a range of ages and groups. Also they do 'test screenings' this is so they can get a feel of how many people will buy tickets to go see it at the cinema.

Market Plan.
To get their films noticed they have three main ways of putting out to the public. They three main ways are Advertising, Publicity and Promotion.
Advertising:
They advertise through a range of media like posters, online advertisements, billboards, newspapers, magazines, mobile internet and through social networks. They advertise through this media as its were people will notice it. As the more people subconsciously see something it will stay on there mind, this is the way that most people get into watching a film. Advertising online is the easiest advertising as lots of people now use free online social networking sites and you tube and these sites are only free because of the advertisements within them. Also films are advertised through making their own social network page this gives viewers a chance to write comments about it and to see what people think.
Publicity:
The movie can get lots of publicity is there are well known actors/actresses within the film. But on the other hand its intriguing to see new faces within the red carpet and see how they act/ react to the public eye. Also the crew members that help create the film always get the attention of the public. They like to see a well known director/producer making another film as they know whether it will be good or not. Another source of publicity is through biographies that people have done that maybe made an appearance in the film or even starred or produced. Movies also get their publicity from the synopsis of the film telling the public facts and teasers of what the film has in store.
Promotion:
Movies get there promotion fact by displaying if they have links to other films or partnerships with other films. This then makes people want to watch the film as its similar to another or created by the same people. Also they could have 'Branded Product Placement' this is were the film is made by a certain familiar company.
